American Olympic sprinter Noah Lyles called out Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill after he won the 60-meter at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on Sunday.

Lyles crossed the finish line in 6.52 seconds, beating out the Bahamas’ Terrence Jones, Italy’s Marcell Jacobs and fellow Americans P.J. Austin and Trayvon Bromell. After he crossed the finish line, Lyles turned his bib around to the camera.

"Tyreek could never," he said referencing the NFL star wide receiver.

He talked about his challenge to Hill with NBC Sports.

"When you’re ready to actually put some words down, and you’re actually ready to race, see me," he said. "I’m right here. I ain’t going nowhere. But all I know is, your football season’s over. You ain’t got no excuse now."

Hill responded in a post on X. "Get a load of this guy."

He challenged Lyles back in August when the Olympic sprinter won 100-meter gold, but he refused to wager his gold medal in a race. Lyles said he would not even put his medal on the line if Hill wagered his Super Bowl ring, which he won with the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2019 season.

Hill's teammate, Dolphins running back Raheem Mostert, told Fox News Digital in August he believes a few of their other teammates could also hold their own against Lyles in a race.

"I feel like we all could run with him," Mostert said of Lyles. "And I know that Noah Lyles brought up the fact that he would race Tyreek in a 60-yard dash or something like that. Or whatever the case may be. I feel like we all could run that 60-yard dash."

The Miami Dolphins' decision to hire Mike McDaniel in 2022 represented a distinct change in coaching style from the previous regime. 

Former Dolphins coach Brian Flores was defensive minded, while McDaniel handled the offensive coordinator duties for the San Francisco 49ers in 2021. Each brought a distinct personality and took different approaches to player discipline.

The New York Jets defeated the Dolphins this past Sunday, which dropped their record to 8-9. While Miami finished the 2022 and 2023 seasons with winning records and postseason berths, this season's sub .500 record kept the Dolphins out of the playoffs for the first time under McDaniel.

Missing the playoffs also prompted McDaniel's final media availability prior to the team's offseason.

McDaniel made some rather telling admissions during the media session, suggesting that he perhaps gave players too much leeway at times. The third-year Dolphins coach also argued that issuing fines lacks a certain level of effectiveness.

"I can fine people till they are blue in the face. I can take their money, I can yell at them," McDaniel said. "But until they understand that part of the reason that we are in [this] position is controllable, and what we have to [have], with absolute certainty, is a zero tolerance for anything else, we have to clean the controllables up and we can have a chance to have success together."

While McDaniel stopped short of naming any specific player, he did hint that the Dolphins had "multiple offenders." He then doubled down on his belief that fines are inadequate, before noting that any internal issues that popped up during the season were not widespread.

"Certain specific individuals… I don’t think it was across the board… There’s a lot of guys that had certain fines before that didn’t have any. There were some people that had multiple that, you know, I think there are different ways to counteract that," McDaniel told reporters. "Bring it up as a team and continuing to fine guys wasn’t enough, so I’m not going to continue to just place all of the blame on even some of the smallest individuals that were multiple offenders."

Nevertheless, McDaniel made it clear that he is open to making adjustments. "I will adjust my process and make sure that it's team-wide knowledge anytime that things are done that aren’t in the best interest of winning football games," he said.

McDaniel's contract with the Dolphins ties him to the franchise through the 2028 season.

With a playoff berth on the line, the Miami Dolphins are likely to be without starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa against the New York Jets on Sunday. 

Head coach Mike McDaniel told reporters in his press conference on Friday that "it is unlikely Tua will see any action."

Tagovailoa being sidelined for the second straight week with a hip injury means the Dolphins' playoff hopes rest in the hands of Tyler "Snoop" Huntley.

In the Dolphins' 20-3 win over the Cleveland Browns last week, Huntley completed 22–26 passes for 225 yards and a touchdown while running the ball seven times for 52 yards and a rushing touchdown. 

In the four games Huntley has started in relief of Tagovailoa, the Dolphins are 2-2. 

If the Dolphins beat the Jets, and the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Denver Broncos, then the Dolphins will be the No. 7 seed in the AFC, with a matchup against the Buffalo Bills.

Should the Broncos beat the Chiefs, and as has been widely reported, the Chiefs are resting their starters, then the Broncos will advance regardless of the outcome of the Dolphins-Jets game. 

Should the Dolphins make the playoffs, however, Tagovailoa said he will be playing.

"If the cards play out the way they should, and the way we know and think they can, I’m going to be available next week. "There’s no ifs, ands or buts allowed. I’ll be playing. That’s for sure," Tagovailoa told reporters Friday.

With Tagovailoa unlikely to play, his final regular-season stats conclude by completing 72.9% of his passes for 2,867 yards with 19 touchdowns and seven interceptions across 11 games. 

Tagovailoa missed time earlier in the season after suffering a concussion against the Bills, in Week 2 and didn’t return to play until the end of October in a loss against the Arizona Cardinals.

Last year was the only time Tagovailoa started every game in a season, as he has missed time with injuries in his five-year career.

The Miami Dolphins made a splash on Sunday afternoon.

Tua Tagovailoa threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to tight end Jonnu Smith on the first drive of overtime to give the Dolphins a 32-26 win over the New York Jets and keep their playoff chances alive.

Miami and New York battled all game long.

Dolphins running back De’Von Achane started the scoring for the Dolphins with a 2-yard run in the first quarter. The next touchdown was scored in the second quarter when Jets running back Isaiah Davis ran in for a 17-yard score. Davis’ touchdown put the Jets up 10-9. 

The Jets looked as though they were getting ahead in the third quarter.

Aaron Rodgers threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams and Anders Carlson hit a 40-yard field goal. The Jets took a 23-15 lead into the final quarter.

Tagovailoa led Miami on a nine-play, 60-yard drive that ended with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Tyreek Hill. The 2-point conversion was also completed on a pass to Jaylen Waddle.

A pair of field goals sent the game into overtime. The Jets’ offense never took the field.

Tagovailoa was 33-of-47 passing with 331 yards and two touchdown passes. Hill had 10 catches for 115 yards and Waddle had nine catches for 99 yards.

Rodgers went over 300 yards passing for the first time since Dec. 12, 2021.

Adams had nine catches for 109 yards along with the touchdown. Garrett Wilson led the team with seven catches for 114 yards, including a 42-yard catch.

However, it was Miami that buried New York’s playoff chances firmly in the ground.

It was the Dolphins’ fourth win in their last five games and their sixth win overall. The Dolphins need to win at least three of their final four games to possibly sneak into the postseason with a logjam for the final three AFC wild-card spots.

Miami only has the Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens in front of them for the final playoff spot.
